Stretch marks on breasts can be frustrating for pregnant and lactating mothers for obvious reasons. However, no matter how hard you want your stretch marks to go away and leave your skin alone, there are certain medications that you must never apply on your skin lest you endanger the health of your child.

Tretinoin Cream

Tretinoin cream can help in eliminating the all-too-visible appearance of stretch marks. This is especially true for stretch marks less than six weeks old and therefore, still in its early pinkish/reddish colorations.

It works by helping to rebuild collagen, the main protein in connective tissues, which improves on the appearance of the stretch marks on breasts. Or anywhere else in the body, for that matter.

However, tretinoin cream must not be used on pregnant and nursing mother because of possible effects on the child. Although there are no definitive tests on this matter, when it comes to the health of the child, it is always best to err on the side of caution.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic Acid is a hydroxyacetic acid found in young plants and green fruits. Its merit in skin care lies in its ability to help in the exfoliation of dead skin cells, which allows for skin rejuvenation. You will notice its beneficial effects through the improvements made on skin texture and fine lines, even on stretch marks.

However, you must play it safe, too, with glycolic acid. It can penetrate the skin and the bloodstream, which can cause harm to the child. Serious side effects include difficulty of breathing and swallowing as well as severe pain.

It must also be noted that doctors have different opinions on the matter. In fact, some doctors will recommend lower strength glycolic acid at 8% as the safe threshold for use by pregnant and lactating mothers. Just to be safe, nonetheless, always play it safe when it comes to the health and life of your child and avoid anti-stretch marks formulations with glycolic acid.

Salicylic Acid

If tretinoin and glycolic acid can be prescribed for pregnant and lactating mothers under the strictest of medical conditions, salicylic acid is a definite no-no. Although it is effective as an ingredient in anti-aging exfoliants, which are essential components of an anti-stretch marks regimen, it can enter the bloodstream and therefore, the milk supply to your child.

As you rub more and more anti-stretch marks creams and other cosmetic products with salicylic acid into your breasts, the more risk there is for your child. The risk is emphasized when you know that one bottle of body peel contains salicylic acid equal to one aspirin. And you know what the effects of aspirin are on pregnant women, right?

Often, it is best to stick to natural anti-stretch marks creams and lotions to avoid adverse side effects on both you and your child. You can always try shea butter, coco butter and even olive oil to help you eliminate stretch marks on breasts and other areas.
