Mederma Stretch Marks

Mederma stretch marks remover cream is a light and greaseless cream that has been touted to help remove both new and old scars since its release in the market in 1997. According to Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, the product's manufacturer, Mederma can remove all forms of scars including stretch marks.

The Ingredients

The active ingredient of Mederma is Cepalin, proprietary botanical extract that comes from the essence of onion and is said to eradicate and heal scars. Other ingredients of Mederma include Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract, Xanthan Gum, Water (purified), Fragrance, Sorbic Acid, Methylparaben, PEG-4 and Allantoin.

Discover a proven system for difficult scar and stretch marks removal

A study was made in 2001 regarding the effects of onion extract on rabbit ear scars. It did improve the collagen in the skin; however, there hadn't been any difference in the appearance of the scar. Up to date, there have only been three major controlled studies that were made in the US evaluating the effectiveness of onion extracts in the healing of human wound. In all three studies, onion extracts showed only very minimal improvements on the scars.

How Mederma Works

Not like any other creams for stretch marks, Mederma is an agent that is made with a variety of purposes, which includes removal of damaged scar tissues that resulted from acne, burns, surgery, or injury. It works the way other scar or stretch mark creams do, wherein the ingredients penetrate deep into the skin to work on the cell tissues and lighten the scars.

How to Use Mederma

Small amount of Mederma cream is to be generously applied to the palm and gently rubbed into the area with stretch marks. To achieve maximum results, it should be used three to four times a day for eight weeks on new scars and three to four times a day for three to six months for older ones.

Who should use Mederma stretch marks remover?

If you have scar or stretch marks, you can try using Mederma. Children, adolescents, adults, and elderly people can safely use the product. However, those who are sensitive to the ingredients should avoid the product entirely. Also, if you experience scar discoloration, severe swelling, and itching, it is advisable that you stop the application and consult your physician if the symptoms persist.

Mederma stretch marks remover cream is just one of the very many stretch mark remover creams in the market today. Since its release in 1997, there haven't been too many published articles regarding its effectiveness on stretch marks, maybe as a scar remover, but not mainly on stretch marks.

Nowadays, its use for the treatment of stretch marks is not really that popular. The reason behind it is that the ingredients present in Mederma lack proven studies as to its effectiveness in the removal of scars. Also, when you look closely at the ingredients, Mederma don’t contain the key ingredients that are vital in the removal of stretch marks. If you are in doubt with the product, try consulting your dermatologist, they can help you decide which one is right for you.
